Instruction
If you'll be assigning a research project to your students, consider scheduling an instruction session with a librarian. Librarians can meet with your classes to discuss the research process, explain how to effectively use library databases and resources, review how to properly cite sources, and more. Our newest librarian, Josefine Smith, will be coordinating the scheduling of library instruction sessions for the 2017-2018 academic year. To set up a library instruction session, contact Josefine (jmsmith@ship.edu). Or click here to find the library liaison to your department, and reach out to her/him directly.

Research Consultations
Librarians are available to meet with your students individually for one-on-one research consultation appointments. If students need help broadening or narrowing a topic, finding appropriate sources, or citing sources correctly, you may encourage them to set up an appointment with a librarian. This service has been heavily used by students in upper level courses in previous semesters.

Course Reserves
You may want to make reading materials available to your students through our course reserves system, Ares. Click here to learn more about Ares. If you have questions about reserves, or experience issues with Ares, the Circulation staff will be able to assist you (libcirc@ship.edu / 717-477-1461).

Book Orders
To request materials for the library collection, use GOBI. The GOBI ordering process is outlined in the GOBI quick start guide. If you have a question regarding GOBI orders, contact Nicole Zinn (ndzinn@ship.edu) in Collection Management.

Ship Resources: Food Studies Online Database Trial

The library is partnering with the History Department to offer a trial of the database Food Studies Online from January 25 - February 25.

According to the company producing this resource, "Food Studies Online is a first-of-its-kind database, bringing together rare and hard-to-find archival content with visual ephemera, text, and video. Food studies is a relatively new field of study, and its importance is felt in many major disciplines. It has social, historical, economic, cultural, religious, and political implications that reach far beyond what is consumed at the dinner table." 

So, what is in it?

"Food Studies Online will include 80,000 pages of primary archival materials, images, and secondary works, plus 2200 hours of documentaries and series."

Ship Resources : psychotherapy.net Resource Trial

Psychotherapy.net provides access to over 200 streaming videos related to the field of psychotherapy, psychology and social work. 

Watch interviews, group therapy sessions and other training videos and learn from the experts. 

This resource includes information on a variety of topics from addiction to depression to family therapy with resources for working with specific populations like children, veterans, older adults or those with developmental challenges and everything in between.


You can enter search terms into the search box or browse by approach, issue, expert, or population. 

Trial access to this resource runs from October 1-31, 2015. If you find psychotherapy.net useful, please let a librarian or professor know.

Ship Resources: Digital Theatre Plus

Digital Theatre Plus is one of the new databases added to the library collection this year.

This database contains “an extensive repertoire of award-winning, acclaimed theatre, music and dance performances. Behind the scenes interviews on acting, directing, design and the technical elements of contemporary theatre practice. Detailed historical, social and political context guides that encourage engagement with the language, form and structure of plays and interactive drama techniques and exercises that are curriculum linked and encourage engagement.”

This resource provides a wide variety of content. You can stream a recorded performance of a live play, watch an actor or producer talk about their creative process, study the background of significant plays or learn strategies for enhancing your own theatrical skills. 

Whether you prefer music, theatre or dance.. whether you'd rather be out in front or behind the scenes.. if you love the arts this resource is for you!

Ship Resources : Calling all Marketing and Business students!

Here at Lehman Library, we strive to partner with your professors to make high quality and relevant resources available to you. During the Fall semester we are working with the business department to provide trial access through the library to eMarketer.com. 

This resource provides businesses with “hundreds of reports and forecasts, thousands of charts, briefs, and interviews” on “virtually every major topic related to digital marketing”

According to their website, “Our mission is simple. We want to be the first place to look for information that will help you make better decisions about being more effective in a digital world – no matter what business or profession you’re in.”

Ship Resources: More than meets the eye

When you think of the library, what comes to mind? A place to check out books? A study space? A stop for Starbucks on the way to class?

It is all of that, and more!

The library can also be a gateway to a vast amount of online resources that have been chosen and purchased especially for you! For example, you know that the library has lots of books available for your use...

...but did you know that there are also thousands of ebooks that you can use through the library?

Here are some reasons to check out the ebook collections at Lehman Library:

• We have over 50,000 ebooks available for your use!
• We have ebooks in all subject areas, from History and English to Chemistry and Computer Science and everything in between!
• You can use ebooks anywhere, from your dorm room to your classroom and even off-campus.
• Many ebooks can be downloaded, and you can take notes and highlight digitally.

Where did the couches go?

 

You may have noticed something different about the library this semester. We did a little redecorating over the summer. The old seating area in the library lobby has been replaced with an information desk that combines the services of the Student Help Desk, formerly in MCT, and the library reference desk, also known as the “Ask us Anything” desk. We have incorporated these services into the information desk to serve you better. At the old “Ask us Anything” desk, we noticed that many students asked us technology related questions that we simply were not equipped to answer. We had to send students out into the cold, the heat, the rain, and all sorts of undesirable weather conditions, to MCT. By bringing the Student Help Desk into the library, we’ll be able to solve your computer problems and your research problems all in one place.

Can’t log on to the wireless network? Computer infected with malware? Can’t figure out how to change your network password? 

We've got Technical Support!

Can’t narrow down your research topic? Having trouble locating sources for a paper? Don’t know how to cite something in MLA style? Ask us Anything!

Because you’re so studious, you’re probably thinking “Wow, how convenient.” But, I bet there are other people out there who are wondering “Where did the couches go? I used to sit there all the time!” Don’t worry, friends. I too enjoy sitting on comfortable furniture. Lucky for you, the couches still exist—we just moved them. Around the corner from the new information desk you’ll see there are still a variety of seating options to choose from so you can study alone or work with friends.
