Got Questions? Ask Us Anything!

Hey, Ship students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, community:

Got Questions? The Library's Ask Us Anything service can give you a quick peek into common questions asked & answered at Shippensburg University.

The library went around and asked university departments to give us their most common questions asked & answered. So, do you have a question for Admissions? Financial Aid? Bursar? Library research? Printing? Something else?

Type the main idea of your question into the Instant Answers box on the library home page and see if it's already been answered!

Where did the couches go?

You may have noticed something different about the library this semester. We did a little redecorating over the summer. The old seating area in the library lobby has been replaced with an information desk that combines the services of the Student Help Desk, formerly in MCT, and the library reference desk, also known as the “Ask us Anything” desk. We have incorporated these services into the information desk to serve you better. At the old “Ask us Anything” desk, we noticed that many students asked us technology related questions that we simply were not equipped to answer. We had to send students out into the cold, the heat, the rain, and all sorts of undesirable weather conditions, to MCT. By bringing the Student Help Desk into the library, we’ll be able to solve your computer problems and your research problems all in one place.

Can’t log on to the wireless network? Computer infected with malware? Can’t figure out how to change your network password?
We've got Technical Support!

Can’t narrow down your research topic? Having trouble locating sources for a paper? Don’t know how to cite something in MLA style? Ask us Anything!

Because you’re so studious, you’re probably thinking “Wow, how convenient.” But, I bet there are other people out there who are wondering “Where did the couches go? I used to sit there all the time!” Don’t worry, friends. I too enjoy sitting on comfortable furniture. Lucky for you, the couches still exist—we just moved them. Around the corner from the new information desk you’ll see there are still a variety of seating options to choose from so you can study alone or work with friends.

Come check out the new information desk for yourself!

Instant Answers: Just in Case You Don't Know

There are several categories of Questions to which many people feel they should already know the answer - but they don't. These are not "Dumb Questions" they're just not intuitive.

Some of the most common non-research question categories deal with:
If you have a broad research question and need general info, try these links to questions about how to find articles or books.

If your question has not yet been asked... Please, Ask Us Anything!
When you ask your question you are also helping other students with the same question, we will make a public answer to your question, after we answer you, so the next person with your question will have an Instant Answer waiting.

We have a great set of Instant Answers which deal with printing (among a vast number of other topics)

Library Course Reserves Update

Improvements to Library Reserves!

Everyone logs on to Library Course Reserves here:
http://ares.ship.edu/ares/

Professors! Library Course Reserves have changed a little from last year. The library has put together a Guide covering eReserves for Faculty:
http://research.library.ship.edu/reserves-faculty

Long story short:

  • Library Course Reserves uses the same software as last year (Ares) *but* Ares does not integrate with Desire 2 Learn (D2L)
  • Professors create their own Class(es) in Ares
  • If you used Library Reserves through Ares last year, you may be able to "Clone" your previous Class information into the new semester (see the eReserves for Faculty Guide)
  • If you need a completely new Class, you may create your own class (see the Guide)
  • Students find their Class(es) and Add them to their eReserves Profile

Students! Library Course Reserves have changed a little from last year. The library has put together a Guide covering eReserves for Students:

Did you get your M&Ms today?

Did you stop by the Ask Us Anything Desk today? If you didn't, you missed the free M&Ms. Stop by tomorrow and ask a question. There may be some M&Ms left for you. We will definitely have some answers.

Ask Us Anything

Welcome Back!

I walked into the Library on the first day of classes to do my regular Tuesday shift, expecting to see no students in the building. But you were here...working away on the computers, talking to the library staff, and drinking Starbucks, just like you were in December. You Ship students are the best. Now come and ask us to help you with your library research. Email us at Ask Us Anything for help OR to make a personal appointment with one of us to help you do your library stuff.
